Ecclesiastes 5:8 If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regards it; and there be higher than they.
Some folks, when reading the scriptures try to avoid certain passages and chapters because of the many wars, conquests, and violence that took place back then. In the Old Testament dispensation, the chosen people were at times sent to war against other cities and nations to capture those heathen nations which had passed the boundaries of God’s grace.
In some instances when ancient Israel was provoked for no other reason than the opposing nation hated God, The Lord would direct them to go out and fight against them. These nations were in some instances given hundreds of years to change course, and thus, when all other remedies had failed, they were then removed.
In many of these wars, The Lord went before them to fight their battles, because He was The One who had sent them on their missions. Therefore, there is undoubtedly the mention of a lot of bloodshed in the Old Testament, and this fact often raises some eyebrows and questions as to why God permitted these things.
1st Samuel 17:46 This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. “Good night” and God bless!
