John 17:1 These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee. 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Not only does the doctrine of natural immortality give to the multitudes a false sense of hope, it robs the gospel of the power of God to save, and places mortal man on the same level with God, essentially rendering us independent of The Life-giver. In addition to this, the teaching of inherent immortality in human beings drives many persons to commit suicide, for rather than try to solve present problems, they are moved to call it quits, with the expectation of life after death in heaven.
Thus, many have concluded that it is better to end life, rather than deal with what they see as irresolvable problems. This is what took place during the financial crash of 2008, where persons were suddenly facing a black hole of financial ruin, foreclosures, and loss of jobs. The same is also being repeatedly currently as Covid has now driven millions to the brink.
Suicide rates have gone up exponentially over the past year among teens and adults alike, and in many cases the decision to end one’s life can be traced back directly to the belief in natural immortality of the soul. This is why the proponents of this false doctrine would be overthrown by Christ in a signal manner, if repentance is not made.
Ezekiel 13:8 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord God. 22 Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. “Good night” and God bless!
