Daniel 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that makes desolate.
Daniel links the word abomination with desolation and consummation, signaling that the planting of the Roman flag on Jewish soil will come with a lot of catastrophic destruction. This would also bring the daily ministration in the temple to a screeching halt because Christ predicted that not one stone would be left upon another. Thus, if according to Christ’s prophecy on the Jewish temple one stone would not be left upon another, it means that the sanctuary services that took place in it daily, would have a tragic end.
After the veil of the temple was rent in two by unseen hands at the time that Christ died on Calvary, daily sanctuary services had continued until Cestius and Titus entered. Then again, Jesus makes it quite plain so that no one would have any doubt as to what the desolation will refer to. The abomination will be the pagan insignia of Rome, set up on Jewish soil, and that will signal a coming destruction by the Roman armies. It is very plain in the Scriptures, so that even your tweenager could understand.
Luke 21:20 And when you shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. 21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto…. And so said so done, because the Roman Cestius first came and planted the pagan banner just on the outskirts of Jerusalem.
Daniel 12:11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
