Matthew 5:40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
In other words, Jesus is saying that from here on out we are going to do things differently. This is why you will see Jesus repeatedly instructing His followers, to take a different approach to wars, or injustices done to them. The apostles, as well as the newly minted Christian church was not to engage in any violence against persons, or nations that that would seek to do them harm.
Instead, they were to deal strictly in the currency of heaven, which God had originally intended for them to adopt. In fact, after the cross of Christ, there isn’t a single instance in the Bible where God would send His people to fight any war, no not one. Yes, they would still have enemies and satan would be tireless in seeking to destroy them but they were commanded by God to only employ the royal ways and means which are hallmarks of Christ’s kingdom.
Whenever their foes might seek to harm them, they were to trust the promises of God, for He would be their go to source for all things pertaining to safety. If they were treated unjustly, they were not to seek for revenge, but instead, should follow the footsteps of Jesus, without turning to the right or the left.
John 18:3 Judas then having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees came thither with lanterns, torches and weapons.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. “Good night” and God bless!
