Make Us a King. Part [1] 07/22/2024 (Evening thought)

1st Samuel 8:4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, 5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. 6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.

This chapter marks a very sad day in the history of Israel, in which they deliberately rejected God as their king, and instead requested a man to rule over them, and indeed from this day onward, the nation, over an extended period of time, began to gradually sink lower and lower in stature, until it reached the point of no return, where the nation rejected Christ altogether.

This is the inevitable result of trusting in man for the arm of flesh will fail you sooner or later. Indeed, the history of the kings which came after they insisted on their request, proved that in the overwhelming majority of cases, the kings did more evil than good and even those kings who followed The Lord for the most part, also engaged in some level of evil in most instances.

Human nature is naturally depraved, and if a person isn’t continually led by The Holy Spirit, that person is certain to make very grave mistakes sooner or later. It does not matter if their intentions might be good, if God is not leading you always, those times when there is a lapse in leadership, through waywardness will most likely result in bad actions and choices.

1st Samuel 8:7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

May God add His blessing to the study of is word. “Good night” and God bless!
