1st Thessalonians 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
When the Bible likens the signs of Christ’s second coming to the labor pains a woman feels just before childbirth we’re to understand and remember that those cramps and contractions take place in stages. The uterus is a muscular organ which contracts in a powerful way to push the baby out and it is these contractions which are primarily the source, and cause of labor pains.
Labor pain Typically comes on gradually, and then builds up as the various phases of labor ensue. The early labor pain experienced is often quite different to the severe contractions and pressures which will occur at later stages.
And for this reason, the passage in 1st Thessalonians pertaining to the birth pangs, which are to precede Christ’s second coming, should be understood as occurring with increasing severity and frequency for in most cases, travail in birth occurs in stages.
1st Thessalonians 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
May The Lord add His blessing to the study of His word. God bless!
