Matthew 17:15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falls into the fire, and oft into the water. 16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. 17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
In other words, this was a very stubborn demon they were dealing with, and as such, a different approach would be needed to be victorious, for in this particular instance, believing alone would not cut it. The word “novel” originates from the Latin word novus, which means “new.” In medicine, “novel” usually refers to a virus or bacterial strain that was not previously identified.
COVID-19 therefore, is a new disease caused by the novel or new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 which had never been seen in humans previously. The disciples in this instance were dealing with a “Novel” evil spirit, one that was new to them and one which they had not previously encountered in the fulfilling of the mandate given them by Christ to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and to cast out devils.
Previously, when they had commanded in the name of Jesus, for certain demons to come out, the evil spirit had obeyed. But this one was very different, for it mocked them in public and try as they might, it stubbornly refused to let go of its victim.
Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. 18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. “Good night” and God bless!
