Psalms 103:17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; 18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
God saves to the uttermost by speaking to us in the language of His love, kindness, grace, and mercy. The above passage does not imply that God deals in any different currency with those who do not keep His laws, or who may rebel against Him. God is love, and His grace and tender mercies are extended to all men, whether they keep His commandments or not. The under-girding principle in all of God’s dealings with all people is always love. Always!
Now, it is true that the laws of cause and effect may often trigger adverse consequences in persons who may choose to walk contrary to the Bible, but that does not in any way take away from the basic fact that God is good to all persons. Those who are believers today were not always Christians and thus it is God’s goodness that has brought us to where we are. Thus, the scriptures teach us that God tries to reach all persons with His love.
In fact, it was when we were the enemies of God that Christ died for us, a fact that is aptly demonstrated in His dealings with Cain, for after he slew his brother Abel for no reason, God announced the curse that his own guilt had incurred. Upon hearing of the adverse consequences of his crime, Cain then complained to God that he would become the target of hatred and scorn wherever he would go, and as a result, anyone finding him would seek to slay him. The following response was God’s grace to one who who never repent.
Genesis 4:13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear. and it shall come to pass, that every one that finds me shall slay me. 15 And the Lord said to him, Therefore, whosoever slays Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him seven-fold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. “Good night” and God bless!
