Revelation 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
This passage of scripture features two aspects of the gospel which have now come into focus, and which need to be addressed and decided on, by every person living today. In the days of Christ and the apostles, the focus of the gospel was on accepting and confessing The Lord Jesus Christ, for many of the Jews back then were hard pressed to believe that the Carpenter from Nazareth could be the long looked for Redeemer of the world, and as such, the admission or confession of His name then constituted full acceptance of the gospel. This is the reason why the apostle Paul, in his entreaties to the Jewish nation, appealed unto them to confess the name of Christ, so that they could be saved, for at that time, this was the focus of the gospel. Let's read:
Romans 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Now it is important to note that Christ has always been, and will always be the focus of the true gospel, however, in our day there are other pertinent aspects which have too long been neglected by millions of Christians, and because of this, the first angel of Revelation 14 begins with the words"Fear God". A person buys a brand new BMW, and desires to keep it working in tip top shape, and in harmony with their desire, they take it in for servicing from time to time so that the dealership may address certain issues which may arise.
In one instance, the dealer changes the air and oil filters, and at another time the car is brought in to have the brakes done. It is the very same car that is being serviced, just different aspects are being featured for addressing, from time to time. The same principle holds true with the gospel, because, while Jesus Christ remains the focus of our attention, yet there are the issues of the judgment and worship, which are in dire need of being addressed by the overwhelming majority of Christians today. It is thus worthy of note, that in the delineation of the everlasting gospel for our day, the angel specifically points our attention to those Christians who keep the commandments of God, and who have the faith of Jesus, because there has been a tectonic shift in the featured aspects of the very same gospel. Let's read:
Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
What we now have in Christendom, is a situation where anyone and everyone claims to be a believing Christian, and because of this, there is only a nominal acceptance of Christ in most cases, where individuals espouse the name of Jesus, but live a life that is directly contrary to all that Jesus says. And so we now have sexual immorality being preached to us from the sacred desk, and the lives of some ministers and televangelists, could make Daniel and Paul turn in their graves. This sad situation was mentioned in reference to the last days of earth's history, as the prophet Isaiah beheld with holy vision, the unprecedented deterioration of the spirituality and morality of the last generation, forcing from his pen the following cryptic analysis. Let's read:
Isaiah 4:1 And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.
It is therefore necessary, that every Christian living in these times, be found not only as mere hearers, but also as doers of the word, for at the end of the day, those who will ultimately be saved in God's kingdom, are those who submit to the full process of Christ restoring God's image in man, and who, as a result, keep all of the commandments of God. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which confirms this sacred truth, and it is the will of God that our lives be in harmony with the great principles of righteousness that are embodied in His law. Let's read:
Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
