Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
This passage of scripture describes very vividly the scenes that will transpire on the earth just prior to the second coming of Christ, and they include wars, earthquakes, turmoil between nations, tsunamis, and violent hurricanes and tornadoes, causing men's hearts to fail because of fear. What has been thus prophesied is what is now unfolding before our eyes, and these developments and occurrences are scheduled to increase exponentially as the violation of God's moral law becomes more widespread across the globe. The physical laws of nature are subservient to the much more potent spiritual law, and therefore, whenever it is deliberately broken or tampered with, the result is that it throws physical law off course, thus causing upheavals in nature which claim hundreds of thousands of lives. Let's read:
Isaiah 24:3 The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the Lord hath spoken this word. 4 The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. 5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.
However, there is a temptation for Christians who know what is coming upon the earth, to be consumed with last day events, to the point where we lose sight of the real purpose of the prophecies thus given. Those predictions given by Christ and the other Bible prophets about the tribulations of the last days are not meant for us to be overwhelmed with the disturbances, but rather for us to "Look up" knowing that our redemption draws nigh. As the labor pains of a pregnant woman portend the soon delivery of her much expected baby, so the signs that foretell Christ's second coming, should be viewed as heralds of the morning, and thus, instead of becoming bewildered and fearful, we should instead be rejoicing with expectation of our dearest hopes and dreams.
Let us therefore not be focused on the bad news of the day, but rather let the good news of the gospel, and Christ's soon coming kingdom, cheer us on our way, for very soon, the object of our hopes will become a living reality. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which encourages us to be faithful, and to lift our faces upwards, knowing that each day brings us closer to the great day of God Almighty. Let's read:
1st Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
May The Lord add His blessing to the study and practice of His every word. God bless!
