The Problem With The Majority Opinion. 02/19/2015 (Evening thought)

Exodus 23:2  Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment.

This passage of scripture teaches us that we should never countenance or support any effort or legislation that will result in the confirmation of evil deeds in the minds of many. Christians are always to live by the word of God alone, without being swayed by the popular opinion or being moved to agree with evil-doers, merely because it is the sociably acceptable thing to do. Sacred history has shown us time and time again that the majority opinion is most often wrong, especially when it has to do with issues of morality and godly principles, because the kingdoms of this world have always been at war with the kingdom of God, since the devil who stands as the great rebel leader, inspires those who are not guided by The Holy Spirit, to implement laws and statutes that are contrary to revealed truth and duty.

Furthermore, the gospel of the kingdom will never be popular with the masses, for it goes against the natural grain of human modes of thought and action, hence the reason why God has never called His people to be popular with the majority, but rather to lead a godly and peculiar life that would represent the principles and interests of His kingdom. Let's read:

1st Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

Numbers 23:8  How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the Lord hath not defied?  9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.

When as Christians we are influenced by the majority opinion, we thereby allow our thoughts and consequent actions to be primarily based on what the world thinks is acceptable, and whenever we put scriptural principles on the back-burner, then everything we think, say, or do will be aligned with the social standards of the day, which vary as the seasons, from year to rear. This mode of thought then ultimately dictates the way we dress, the fashions we espouse, the way we eat, the entertainment we indulge, the way we vote, and the way we interpret the Bible, for everyone who is subject to the majority opinion will be led by policy instead of principle, a pattern of thought that ultimately leads to destruction.

Noah's preaching was highly unpopular in his day, as he predicted a flood upon the earth that would wipe out the majority of earth's inhabitants, even though rain had never fallen upon the earth. Noah was obviously heckled and taunted by the news media of his day, and the many scientists and philosophers who used their so-called higher education to debunk Noah's God given prophecy, laughed him to scorn, for his supposedly flawed science. And the department of children and families of Noah's day also chimed in with a stinging rebuke of his so-called ill treatment of his sons, for having them isolated in the ark, away from society, and groceries and hospitals, and schools.

The humane society of Noah's day also voiced their concern and their displeasure as they saw the many animals being led two by two, and sevens by sevens into the ark, away from their natural habitat, they became extremely offended when they saw Noah's own two puppies silently making their way into the massive structure. But as sacred history shows, the popular, majority opinion proved to be very wrong, and as a result, it is estimated that approximately seven billion people perished in the waters of the flood, whilst Noah and his supposedly weird science and loathsome predictions rode out the storm by the grace of God, and thereby taught us a most valuable lesson, that there are deep inherent problems with being guided by the majority opinion. Let's read:

Genesis 7:11  In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.  12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.  19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.  20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.  21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man:  22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died.

In our day, many scholars and scientists and philosophers are again making the same fatal mistake of trying to debunk the prophecies which point to the soon return of Christ in the clouds of heaven, for by the theory of evolution, they literally deny the sacred history of the flood, which stands as a beacon of warning to all earth's inhabitants. The theory of survival of the fittest proposes that the strong will survive, but the Bible teaches us the very opposite, for it's not the fittest, but the faithful who shall ultimately inherit the earth. We therefore end with a replica of the prophecy made by Noah which pertains to our day, and it is the will of God that we be not misled by the majority opinion, but that we believe and act on the sure promises of God's word. Let's read:

2nd Peter 3:10  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.  11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,  12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?  13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

May God add his blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
