Deuteronomy 32:3 Because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. 4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
This passage of scripture reveals a very sacred truth about the God of heaven as it pertains to all of His dealings with us, and all that He does in creating animate and inanimate things. The passage states that God's work is perfect, meaning that there can never be a flaw in anything that He says or does. Then it goes on to say that all His ways are judgment, meaning that they are done in infinite wisdom and discretion, without any favoritism or bias whatsoever. Then the verses go on to say that He is a God of truth and equity, meaning that everything that God does is entirely true and isn't tainted in any way with evil intentions, or from a background of sin. And finally, Moses caps it all off by declaring unequivocally that everything God does is not merely His way, but it's the right thing to do.
This puts God in an altogether different light than what many people have come to believe about Him and His works. Some folks query not only the existence of God but also His manner of doing things, as if there is some flaw to be found at anytime or anywhere with the work of creation and redemption. In the old Testament God gave several judgments to His servant Moses to be implemented when certain situations arose with the Hebrews, or with their interactions with other nations. These judgments were given in infinite wisdom, and were as always, the right thing to do. For instance, when the Amalekites had filled to the brim their cup of iniquity, God did the right and just thing by commanding Saul to slay everyone in that city, both old and young, for their probation was closed. Let's read:
1st Samuel 15:2 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt. 3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
Some people have taken issue with God for bringing such judgments on the people, especially the little children who had not lived their lives to the full as yet. But we must also remember that it was the same warlike tribe of Amalek that pounced upon the unarmed Hebrews and slaughtered mercilessly those who were old, with the mothers and their children as the Hebrews passed through the desert, and the same God of love who now utterered judgment against them, permitted them at that time to live many, many years after their brutal and unprovoked attack of Israel, until their cup of iniquity being full, He did the right and loving thing by putting them all to sleep, including the little children, who would certainly grow up to follow in the bloody footsteps of their parents, and who would then have to pay a much steeper price when the fires of hell are kindled in the future. Let's read:
Exodus 17:1 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the Lord, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink. 8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side" ....
It's because of instances such as these which occurred in the old testament era, many people, even amongst Christians, have erroneously concluded that the God of the old Testament was severe in His dealings with the human family, and for this reason they prefer to dwell on the new Testament, where the love of Christ is focused on very heavily. But the truth is that the God of the old and new Testaments is Christ, and even though in the new testament His great sacrifice for us on Calvary, together with all the consequent benefits which accrue to the bad and the good alike are featured prominently, yet when our probation closes, and the chips are tallied, those who are found on the wrong side of the fence will suffer the same fate as the tribe of Amalek, and then, as with them, it will also be the right thing to do. Let's read:
Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses" .... 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords. 17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.
This Person referred to here is the same loving Jesus who hung upon the cross, after being beaten, spat upon, insulted and mocked by the insane multitude, and who in reply to all of that unthinkable torture, said "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do". He then did the merciful thing in satisfying the claims of God's broken law, but when earth's probation closes He will do the just and right thing by destroying the ungodly. The very same Jesus, only in a reversal of roles.
After 9/11 the hunt was on for Bin Laden who masterminded the attacks on the twin towers in New York city, which killed in cold blood almost three thousand people in one day. But for ten years the world's most wanted successfully evaded the authorities, for he was somehow able to escape to Pakistan where for many years he lived in luxury and comfort in a huge mansion, outfitted with all that the heart could desire. There he reminisced with pleasure as he saw the footage of the deadly attacks, where people were burnt alive, while others in desperation were forced to jump to their deaths from the staggering heights of the world trade centers. These heinous acts were viewed as he had breakfast in bed, with no remorse or regret whatsoever. Someone in the universe must of necessity do the right thing and recompense upon the heads of those criminals, their just due, and that Person is the one and only Jesus Christ, who will certainly do the the "Right thing".
Let us therefore be very careful of judging God with a short stick in our own finite minds without the knowledge of facts, for whatsoever God does is not only His opinion, it is the only right and just thing to do. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which reiterates this sacred truth, and may we ever be humble enough to let Him lead, as only He can. Let's read:
Psalm 50:1 The mighty God, even the Lord, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. 2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. 3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. 4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. 5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. 6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
