Christ As Redeemer. 07/12/2014 (Evening thought)

Exodus 31:12 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you.

This passage of scripture teaches us that the seventh day Sabbath is also a sign of God's re-creative and redeeming work, in behalf of all those who have entered into a covenant relationship with Him. When the work of salvation begins in our hearts, it becomes necessary for for us to acknowledge Christ in His capacity as our Redeemer, so that His creative power can be exerted to save to the uttermost, those that come to Him by faith. The Bible teaches us that there is only one mediator between God and man, that is The Lord Jesus, and as the sinner accepts God's salvation through Him, God then begins to put our broken pieces back together again. Let's read:

2nd Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

This re-creative work of God also includes the aspect of rest, for any doctor will affirm the fact that a patient who needs reconstructive surgery would need to rest and be quiet as the delicate work is being done. In the Christians life this rest is defined by faith in God, who has given us a day of rest wherein we may reflect on the restorative work He has been doing all week long, and that's why the celebration of the Sabbath rest is an important aspect of the work of salvation. Let's read:

Hebrews 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

In all of our busy schedules and hectic activities, let us always remember that the God of heaven has called us to rest and abide in Christ, and may we ever show our gratitude by honoring Him on His Sabbath day of rest, so that the good work He has begun can continue uninterrupted until Jesus comes. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which encourages us to find our rest in Christ, for His re-creative power is available to all who trust in Him. Let's read:

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

May this be our experience both now and forever. "Good night" and God bless!
