2nd Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
This passage of scripture describes for us the essence of the Christian's hope, an ardent desire that is born within our hearts as we see the rapid deterioration of morality, and the subsequent rise of unrighteousness in the earth. The heart grows faint with the incessant bloodshed, crime, fraud, hacking, protests, wars, deadly viruses, and the increasing inability of political leaders to come together to solve our nation's pressing problems. The truth is that in and of our selves, we do not have the answers, and that's the reason why the passage above states that our hope should not be centered in the here and now, but rather on the immortal inheritance, where moth and rust does not corrupt, nor thieves break through and steal.
The word of God predicts a time when there will be an unprecedented rise of lawlessness which will plunge this earth into chaotic anarchy, as the laws and statutes that were given for our own good are thrown out as being archaic or irrelevant. When every man becomes a law unto himself, then we are left with no absolute standard of righteousness, and everyone will do what is right in their own eyes. The only problem with this theory is that what may be offensive and wrong for one individual, might not be wrong for another person, and as a result of adopting the doctrine of relative righteousness, one person could behead another and be perfectly at ease with such a horrendous crime, whilst others may recoil at the very thought of it.
Again, some people may think that marriage should be restricted to one man and one woman, whilst others may think that the many alternative lifestyles that abound are perfectly normal, and thus it is because of this fluid system of right and wrong, why we are falling deeper and deeper into the abyss of crime, violence and gross immorality. The word of God accurately predicted the perilous times in which we now live, and it's left up to each person to take the necessary steps to align ourselves with the kingdom of God and His righteousness, before it is eternally too late. Let's read:
2nd Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof" .........
In lieu of these turbulent times in which we live, it is incumbent upon every Christian to live in harmony with the word of God in everything, not allowing ourselves to be deluded with the world's standard of right and wrong, but living by the word of God alone. It's only in this way that we will be found blameless when the eternal kingdom of righteousness shall be ushered in, and Christ will come to claim His own. We therefore encourage everyone to look up, because our redemption draws near, and to do all we can to finish the work of the gospel in this generation. Our last passage of scripture is given with the hope that it will inspire an ardent desire for a brighter day, and also that the prerequisite of having Jesus as Lord and Savior of our lives may commence and continue without delay. Let's read:
John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
