Assessing our priorities. 01/30/14 (Evening thought)

Matthew 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?  33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

This passage of scripture points us to the mighty God whose mercies towards the human family fail not.His kindness towards us is renewed every day, being manifested in the way He provides for our various needs. He sends the sunshine and the rain so that vegetation, fruits  and flowers may grow.He causes grass to grow in the field so that both man and beasts are fed.In our world today we seem to be obsessed with acquiring the temporal things of life.We sometimes worry about bills, 401ks, the mortgage note, and how we are going to put food on the table for our families. The text for this morning tells us that what we need most is to put our priorities in order. If we seek Christ and His righteousness first, then he promises us that everything else we are concerned about, will automatically fall into its rightful place. In other words, if God is given the first place in our lives, he then gives us the assurance that all the necessities of life will be taken care of in a timely manner. To give an example, my wife was one day just mentioning to me that she felt like having a nice piece of cake. Not long after, a friend who knew nothing of my wife's wishes, knocked on our front door and brought us a freshly baked cake.We were speechless! Who would have thought that the God of heaven would even consider such a request and grant an answer so speedily? That same God is today, appealing to us not to be consumed with the material things of life, but rather to avail ourselves of the relationship He desires to have with each and every one of us.Let's seek him today and the result will be blessings in every area of our lives, for He is faithful in all of His promises."Good night" and God bless!
