Isaiah 60:2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
[G.C. pp 127] The infamous traffic was set up in the church, and Tetzel, ascending the pulpit, extolled indulgences as the most precious gift of God. He declared that by virtue of his certificates of pardon, all the sins which the purchaser should afterward desire to commit would be forgiven him, and that “even repentance was not indispensable.” More than this, he assured his hearers that the indulgences had power to save not only the living but the dead.
That the very moment the money should clink against the bottom of his chest, the soul in whose behalf it had been paid would escape from purgatory and make its way to Heaven. This leads us to the last and most important prerogative of God, one that will permanently, and irreversibly close off the probation of the human family: [4] The prerogative to receive worship. God alone is worthy of worship and praise because He has created us and all things.
Whatsoever we accomplish that is good, the glory and credit for it must go to him alone. When the 426 Hemi engine burst upon the scene in the 60’s and 70’s and won several Drag racing titles, it was the Chrysler/Dodge manufacturer that got the credit, for they made the Hemi. Similarly, praise and worship must be given to God alone for He is the One who created us. Therefore, when mortals begin to crave praise and worship, they are attempting to sit in God’s seat.
Isaiah 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north.
