1st Samuel 13:11 And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you came not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;
1st Samuel 13:12 Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the Lord: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering. 13 And Samuel said to Saul, you have done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel forever.
After studying numerous accounts of impatience in sacred history, it seems as if very serious blunders often occur right around the corner from hastiness. The problem with Saul wasn’t that he did not wait, it was the attitude he displayed while waiting which did him in. If in some desperate situation you were to wait on The Lord, all the while you are, fussing and cussing, in a bad mood, uttering words of unbelief with your feathers all ruffled, you will not have waited on God even if the stipulated time was observed.
God is a Spirit, and the attitude with which we wait is just as important as any stipulated timeframe He may give. In other words, if you are waiting on God for an answer, and you find yourself becoming very fretted and vexed with Him, that type of waiting will not be recognized as the patience of the saints, for it comes tainted with worry, anxiety, and care. 1st Samuel 13:14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee.
