Joel 3:14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. 15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.
[Christ’s Object Lessons pp 411] The class represented by the foolish virgins are not hypocrites. They have a regard for the truth, they have advocated the truth, they are attracted to those who believe the truth; but they have not yielded themselves to the Holy Spirit’s working. They have not fallen upon the Rock, Christ Jesus, and permitted their old nature to be broken up. This class are represented also by the stony-ground hearers.
They receive the word with readiness, but they fail of assimilating its principles. Its influence is not abiding. The Spirit works upon man’s heart, according to his desire and consent implanting in him a new nature; but the class represented by the foolish virgins have been content with a superficial work. They do not know God. They have not studied His character; they have not held communion with Him; therefore they do not know how to trust, how to look and live. Their service to God degenerates into a form.
Every person living on the planet at that time will be involved. Thus, God encourages everyone listening to make your calling and election sure by first choosing Jesus as Lord and Savior of our lives, and then applying that decision in practical ways by allowing The Holy Spirit to interface truth in our everyday experience. It is a work that cannot be put off for another day, except at grave peril to our souls, and thus, we will end the study with a passage of Scripture that calls us to the urgency of the moment, as we beseech you in Christ’s stead, to be reconciled to God.
Romans 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put you on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
