It’s Lawful To Do Well On The Sabbath. Part [11] 11/05/2026 (Evening thought)

Isaiah 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable; and shalt honor him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words.

[P&P pp 307] Acts of necessity and mercy are permitted on the Sabbath, the sick and suffering are at all times to be cared for; but unnecessary labor is to be strictly avoided. Those who discuss business matters or lay plans on the Sabbath are regarded by God as though engaged in the actual transaction of business. To keep the Sabbath holy, we should not even allow our minds to dwell upon things of a worldly character.

Let’s say the dealership called me for work over the Sabbath, because of an emergency with a customer and I answered my phone telling them that I cannot work over the sacred hours, but then I told them I would be there, first thing Monday morning, I would have laid plans during the Sabbath, and according to the prophet of God, I actually did the transaction on the Sabbath…. [Test. Vol. 6 pp 355] On Friday, let preparation for the Sabbath be completed.

See that all the clothing is in readiness and that all the cooking is done. Let the boots be blacked and the baths be taken. The Sabbath is not to be given to the repairing of garments, to the cooking of food, to pleasure seeking, or to any other worldly employment. Before the setting of the sun let all secular work be laid aside and all secular papers be put out of sight… Isaiah 58:14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

May God add His blessing to the study of His word. “Good night” and God bless!
