Haggai 1:9 Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the Lord of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and you run every man unto his own house.
Some may not understand what The Lord is saying to us individually and nationally, so let us put that phrase: “A bag with holes” into context, using the vernacular of the people so that every person could understand. “A bag with holes” means higher diesel prices and increasing pain at the pump, higher grocery prices and higher energy costs. And at every turn, when it is time to spend, things just seem not to be adding up for some strange, unknown reason.
One of the main reasons for this phenomenon is that benevolence is being choked off, and all who follow that model of hoarding to preserve self, will discover that it is a losing strategy on every level. This leads us to our study for today, in which a poor, woman, who is hanging on by her last thread has to make a life, or death decision, since the economic outlook is as grim as you could get.
There is a severe food shortage, farmers are out of diesel, drought is taking its toll on reservoirs and lakes, and the price of food, goods and services is through the roof. Yet, God sends Elijah to this widow woman, to ask her to open up her springs of benevolence, even as she is hunkering down with her last meal for herself and her son. What should she do, because she is on the verge of starvation.
Haggai 1:11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labor of the hands.
May The Lord add His blessing to the study of His word. God bless!
