Matthew 9:9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
Later on, when Paul was called to the ministry it was discovered that he also was a tentmaker, and thus, he could support himself if and when he needed to. In other words, if it became necessary, as a result of low funding from the ministry, for Paul to support himself, he could always fall back on the skill, trade, or whatsoever he specialized in.
Acts 18:1 After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth; 2 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them. 3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and worked: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
1st Corinthians 9:11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? 12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Never the less we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
