Matthew 26:39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: never-the-less not as I will, but as thou wilt. 40 And he comes unto the disciples, and finds them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
The same issue of being disturbed from the comfort zone also took place with Christ as He wrestled with the powers of darkness in Gethsemane. Prior to this Jesus was at the top of the world, commanding evil spirits to depart from persons, healing the sick, and raising the dead. At this time, Jesus could say with conviction, “I delight to do Thy will, O my God”.
But then a change of fortune grips Him, He is placed in a very uncomfortable position, and Jesus’ comfort zone is being severely shaken. His distress is given expression in words that tell of the difficulty of the time, and to make things worse, His disciples who should be there to encourage Him, are snoring at a distance.
When one’s comfort zone is disturbed, very strange things can happen, and words that usually wouldn’t be spoken under more favorable circumstances are often given utterance. It is the will of God that whether we face adversity or ease, that our faith in Him would not waver. We may have our discouragements and disappointments as Job and Jesus had, but the bottom line should always be “Though He slay me, Yet will I trust Him”
Matthew 26:38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. “Good night” and God bless!
