Ephesians 4: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive. 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.
What we’re referring to, as it pertains to deliberate misuse of the scriptures was manifested in real time when the tempter came to Christ in the wilderness as an angel of light. At that time, he resorted to the use of the scriptures, to try to legitimize a contrary course of action.
His forays into the word, and the resulting errors which followed are to be studied closely by those who are preparing for the final conflict between good and evil, for the same strategies used back then would be employed in our day.
The Bible warns us specifically that false Christs and false prophets would arise, and deceive many, a phenomenon that is already underway, and thus, the soldiers of the cross must be on full alert so as not to be carried away by the multitude of errors.
2nd Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
