Matthew 20:20 Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him. 21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. 24 And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.
The desire for the best and highest place is actually an outgrowth from survival of the fittest, and even with the twelve disciples, that same principle led the mother of James and John to ask Jesus for the best and highest positions in the kingdom under Jesus, and were it not for Christ’s intervention there could have been a confrontation, a Cuban missile crisis of sorts, on a miniature scale.
In this instance, Christ sought to establish service as the core operating principle of His kingdom, which is diametrically opposed to the principle of survival of the fittest found in evolution. In Darwin’s world persons view other people as obstacles, or stepping as stones, in their mad rush to survive, that is why the other ten disciples became angry. Thus it is that the source of most discord in our world comes from the principle of survival of the fittest.
Many of our activities and purposes, as human beings are currently driven by evolutionary principles. From capitalism, to the Superbowl, and from wrestling to boxing, and all major league sports, drag racing, horse racing and American Ninja, all of them have at their core, to a lesser or greater degree, the same principle of survival of the fittest.
Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. “Good night” and God bless!
