John 11: 22 But I know that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. 23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. 24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
There are certain things which do not take place in the presence of Jesus, for He is the source of life. If Jesus had showed up before Lazarus passed, then the truths and corrections about the resurrection, which needed to be made may not have occurred. If one has electricity in the house, the lights won’t go out because of a lack of current. Similarly, if Christ, The Life-giver was in the house, Lazarus would not have died, so Jesus’ apparent delay was deliberately meant to facilitate the imminent resurrection of Martha’s brother.
At this point, Martha’s faith reaches forward to that great day when Christ will call all the righteous dead from their graves. But Jesus is now about to make a clear statement on the foundation of the promise of eternal life, for as yet, many, including Martha, did not fully grasp the true meaning of the incarnation of Christ. In her previous statement Martha said she believed that whatsoever Jesus asked of The Father would be granted Him.
But she didn’t fully grasp that the very fullness of God was standing in front of her, in the person of Jesus, and for this reason Christ sought to give clearer direction to her faith. When we accept Christ as Lord and Savior of our lives, it’s much more than an assent to a set of doctrines or creeds that takes place. A union between the human and Divine ensues, and all who cling to Jesus will be participants of the immortal life that is within Himself.
John 11:25 Jesus said unto her I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.
May God add His blessing to the study of His word. “Good night” and God bless!
