2nd Samuel 6:2 And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baal of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the Lord of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubim. 5 And David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.
David was also displeased because it was a joyous occasion, and even if God had found some fault with Uzzah’s actions, He could have at least waited until the ark was returned to the city. But to stop the joyous procession and celebration in such a manner, was, in the mind of David, in bad taste. Some people may make similar conclusions as it pertains to the time and way in which Ananias and Saphira were taken out.
Some believe God could have waited until Divine service was finished, until the people had dispersed, and then the judgement could be administered. But to kill both husband and wife in the middle of the church would be sure to send great shivers down the spines of the new believers, and no doubt, some would become frozen in their seats, whilst others would be embarking upon deep soul-searching, to see if they had for some reason come up short in their tithes and offerings.
Like David, many persons, after reading this story about uzzah’s sudden demise, and other stories like it in the Bible, are “displeased with God, and some people go on to Hate Him, for many of them are at a loss to explain, or understand why God administered such a serious correction, at such a time as this.
Proverbs 29:1 He, that being often reproved hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
May The Lord add His blessing to the study of His word. God bless!
