Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
This passage has been used over and over again by theologians and laity alike to try to prove that God's law of ten commandments was nailed to the cross, and therefore, is no longer relevant. We will now begin to give several explanations to this passage over the coming days. Let's start with the last verse which says "The body is of Christ". The next time you happen to be in the great outdoors at noon, look for your shadow, and there you will see it on the ground, for wherever there's a shadow, there must be a body.
Thus, the "Shadow" being referred to in Colossians, must refer to the law of sacrifices given to Moses, including all those which pointed to Christ as "The Lamb of God", whose literal body was nailed to the cross, and who was represented in all of the sacrificial lambs slain from Eden to Calvary. The moral law of God was never a shadow, because it existed before the world was created, and before we needed a Savior. Thus, the laws that were blotted out at the cross must qualify as "Shadows" as the passage stipulates.
If on a bright moonlit night I were to see a shadow moving in my backyard, I will reach into my top drawer at my bedside, and pull out my "Bible" (LoL) and follow the shadow until I find the body. In like manner, it was God's will that mankind should follow the shadows of the sacrificial lambs, to the body of Christ which was nailed to the cross, and therefore the Bible teaches us that God's law, including the Sabbath is still valid. Let's read:
Isaiah 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.
May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
