Reflections On The Elections Part (2). 08/26/2015 (Evening thought)

Daniel 4:17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

This passage of scripture teaches us that behind the scenes, and beyond all of the speeches and political maneuvering that various candidates engage in, the fact of the matter is that God is the One who ultimately decides who will be the next president of the United States, and whatever we may do, and however we may vote, if we so choose, does not change or alter His will and purposes in any way, shape, or form. The word "Decree" that is used in the passage, means that God's purposes override any secular forces to the contrary, and thus, the issue for us as Christians, is that we be fully aligned with His perfect will in all things.

In referring to the appointments to the throne, and the presidency in different countries, the above passage states that God sets up over earthly kingdoms, the basest of men, not because He deliberately chooses the worst of mankind for these offices, but in many cases He brings into power, those who reflect the general sentiments of the people, and who are thus used in fulfilling His will, even though in most instances, the human agents may not be aware of what is taking place.

In the Bible, we have the example of Saul, who was anointed by God as the first king of Israel, in direct response to the clamors of the People, and we observe in this instance that the people were well pleased with the height and bearing of Saul, meaning that his stature and outward appearance meant much more to them than his inner characteristics, which God had already warned them of. Let's read:

1st Samuel 9:1 Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish"..... "a mighty man of power. 2 And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.

1st Samuel 12:1 And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you. 13 Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the Lord hath set a king over you.

But as sacred history goes, it was not long before the people deeply regretted the choice they had made, for it soon became evident that the new king was not willing to follow the clearest instructions and commands of God, for not only did he lay grievous burdens upon the people, but he blatantly refused to obey the mandates given him, to the point where he hated the very presence of Samuel who was first sent to anoint him. In the history of king Saul, we find that God gave the people what they had clamored for, even though it was not for their best good, because they insisted on a course of action that Samuel warned them of, as being contrary to His revealed will.

The current front runner in one of the political parties, reflects the attitudes and desires of a large voting bloc, and although it is evident that that his demeanor and character are entirely out of line with the principles of the Bible, yet many seem to be infatuated with the rhetoric and vitriol that oozes from his mouth from day today. This means that he finds an answering chord in the hearts of millions, who are in harmony with his views and methods, and it's only God alone who knows where this will all lead.

But one thing is certain, that however the election goes next year, God's purposes will be done any which way, and even though we do not encourage support for one candidate or another, yet we must be aware that the history of this earth is winding down at an alarming pace, and therefore we must expect developments of no ordinary character, as the final pieces of the puzzle are put in place.

We therefore end with a passage of scripture which encourages us not to look to mortal man for solutions to the problems of this world, but rather to look to God, from whence cometh our help, for the kingdoms of this world are soon to become the kingdom of our God and of His Christ. Let's read:

Daniel 2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. 45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

May God add His blessing to the study of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
