When The Word Of God Becomes Scarce. 07/25/2015 (Evening thought)

Amos 8:11  Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:  12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

This passage of scripture warns us of a time when the scriptures will become extremely scarce, and almost nonexistent, except as it would have been etched indelibly into our consciences. Now it is indeed hard to imagine, that in an age when the Bible is literally at our fingertips, that it will become extinct as a written document, but the Bible says that this will happen, and so because God says it, we believe it, and that should settle it for us. One of the ways in which this prophecy will take place is through the proliferation of sacrilegious and satanic versions of the scripture, which bend the truth out of its original context, or otherwise eliminate those passages and prophecies which reveal unpalatable truths to the carnally minded.

We are now bombarded with a plethora of divergent interpretations of scripture, and there are many churches, denominations, and religious institutions which have come up with their own personal versions, which have been tailor-made to suit their own fancy. Thus when we make reference to the Bible, we cannot do so anymore in a generic form, because one version says this wile the other version says that. The recent queen James version is an example of what is being spoken of, for it deliberately omits and distorts those scriptures which identify the sin of homosexuality as being a grave abomination in the sight of God.

Other versions like the New international version, have done violence to certain verses, and have eliminated some of those which deal with specific important truths. Therefore, in order that the true believers may not be swayed by the machinations of mortal man, God has promised to write His law and the principles of His word into our consciences, so that no one will be able to interfere or take it away from us. As a matter of fact, this represents the ongoing work of The Holy Spirit in our hearts and minds, bringing the word of God where it was written originally, on the fleshy tablets of the heart. Let's read:

Hebrews 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make"... "after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:  11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

It is therefore of the utmost importance, that instead of wasting the precious moments of time on television shows and movies which do not edify, we should instead be treasuring up the word of God in our hearts, so that when the prophecy in Amos is fully come to pass, we will have had an intimate knowledge of what is written in the scriptures, for not only would it have been written in our minds previously, but God has also promised to bring the key verses to our remembrance, whenever we need them most. Let's read:

John 14:26  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Let us therefore form the habit of committing several important passages of scripture to memory, and if this is done on a consistent basis, we will soon find that the word of God will be readily available when we are brought into situations where we must give a reason for the hope that is in us. Thus, instead of scrambling for a book or fumbling for words, the Bible in spoken form will be on our very lips, so we can answer at any time and in any place for our faith. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which encourages us to study the word for ourselves, and may we be rooted and grounded in the truths given to us by God. Let's read:

2nd Timothy 3:14  But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing"... 15 "That from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
