The Divinity Of Christ. 07/21/2015 (Morning thought)

Colossians 2:8  Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.  9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.  10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.

This passage of scripture teaches us the sacred truth that Jesus Christ is God in the highest sense, and it also cautions us against the belief that He is a lesser God, as many, even amongst Christians hold. Being the second member of the God-head, in no way diminishes or lessens His rank or office, because all of the creative energy and universal authority of God are to be found in Christ. This sacred truth is established beyond the shadow of a doubt in the sacred scriptures, and even though Christ condescended to save us, by becoming a man, yet He also remains fully God, and has always been and will always be. Furthermore, in the book of Isaiah He is referred to as "The Mighty God, and The everlasting Father" the highest rank and office there is. Let's read:

Isaiah 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end"....

Some may be wondering why it's important for us to recognize the fullness of the God-head in Christ; the reason is because He must have the inherent power to deliver on the promises He has made. There are many promises made by Christ in the Bible, but none of them could be fulfilled if He was not fully God in the highest sense, and if this were were the case, then our faith in Him would then be vain. One of the important promises He has given is that of the resurrection, by which He will call all of the inhabitants of earth to the dawn of the dead, where some will come forth unto life, and others unto damnation. It's only the most High God can do this, and The Lord Jesus Christ certainly will. Let's read:

1st Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.  18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

John 5:28  Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,  29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Another important prerogative of Divinity that is manifested in Christ is His power and authority to create. The Bible tells us that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, and it does not leave us in doubt as to who is being referred to there in Genesis, for we see clearly in the scriptures that all three members of the God-head were present when the earth was being called forth in Edenic beauty. Therefore all who participated in the creative activity, must of necessity be Divine. Let's read:

Genesis 1:1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.  2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

John 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God.  3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.  4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Let us therefore harbor correct, scriptural views of The Lord Jesus Christ, because what we believe about Him will directly affect our expectations of Him. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which reaffirms the sacred truth that Christ is God in the highest sense, and therefore we can safely conclude, that whatsoever He has promised, He is more than able to bring to pass, thereby strengthening our faith in Him. Let's read:

Revelation19:11  And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.  12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.  16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.

May The Lord add His blessing to the study of His word. God bless!
