Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
This passage of scripture has often been the source of great controversy in the Christian world, where many preachers and televangelists have used it to try to nullify God's sacred law of ten commandments. Especially is it used against the Sabbath of the fourth commandment, the only one that shows by whose authority the law is given, and the only one that states who is The Creator of the heavens and the earth. The Bible must never be made to be in opposition to itself, for whenever the scriptural guidelines for interpretation are followed, there is seen to be harmony and symmetry in all the words of holy writ. Thus we are cautioned in the scriptures against introducing any "Private" interpretation that cannot be substantiated by the word of God itself. Let's read:
2nd Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Isaiah 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.
Thus, as we use the scriptural methods of interpretation we can avoid the many snares and pitfalls that have befallen the unwary. In the above passage in Colossians, the Bible stipulates which laws were nailed to the cross, for it says those that were "Shadows", which pointed forward to the ministry and death of Christ. For instance, the law of sacrifices in which the priest presented a lamb to be slain for the sins of the people in former years, was done away with when Christ died on Calvary, hence the reason why the veil of the temple was rent in twain, at the very same time that Jesus yielded up His life for us. Let's read:
Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent.
But the ten commandments were never nailed to the cross, for they are never designated as shadows in the scriptures, being in existence long before there was any need of shadows, and before man had sinned. Wherever there is a a shadow there must be a body, and thus the passage in Colossians points us to the body of Christ, nailed upon the tree as a direct and complete fulfillment of all the sacrifices which pointed forward to His great sacrifice. If the ten commandments were nailed to the cross, as many professors of religion erroneously teach, then the massacre which took place recently in South Carolina was not wrong, because the commandment that says "Thou shalt not kill" was also nailed to the cross.
Similarly with Bernie Madoff, who stole billions of dollars in the worlds largest and longest running Ponzi scheme, and who plunged thousands of unsuspecting families into financial ruin. He should now be set free, for if the Ten commandments were nailed to the cross, then he was convicted wrongfully. The fact is that many of the false interpretations which abound today, as it pertains to the passage in Colossians, are just inventions of man to try and circumvent an undesirable duty, and for what reason we know not, because the Sabbath of the fourth commandment bids us rest. We do not know what is so repulsive in taking a rest from our toils and cares every week, as God designed, yet millions are desecrating the sacred day, as they follow the teachings of men.
The law of God will always be valid, and the Sabbath will last for eternity, therefore any person who desires to enter the pearly gates, should now understand that the Sabbath will be kept in heaven, and since practice makes perfect, we may was well start now, by obeying the wise instructions of God on this point. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which reiterates this sacred truth, and it is the will of God that the necessary reforms on this issue be made without delay. Let's read:
Isaiah 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. 23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.
May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
