Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
This passage of scripture teaches us the principle of contentment, which should span the entire spectrum of our experience. This principle must also be applied to being content with the way God made us physically, and not trying in any way to "Make up", through plastic surgery, fillers, or implants, for any apparent shortfall that society has imposed upon us. As Christians we do not need the world to tell us how to look presentable, for its standards and morals are dead set against the plain teachings of God's word, thus, whenever our goal is to subscribe to the latest popular fashions, or standards, we become enslaved to mere human opinion, and will be found drifting with every fad, irregardless of what the scriptures teach.
If our thoughts and actions are being molded by the majority opinion, then we may know that we have a very serious problem on our hands, for the Christian is to have the principles and instructions of God's word first and foremost in everything that we think, do, or say. Satan has a way of herding those who let him, into streamlined modes of thought and action, therefore many people end up losing their God-given identity in pursuit of popular approbation from the masses. Thus our individuality is merged into that of another, and the "Stars" of Hollywood are the ones who dictate how we dress, act, and carry about ourselves. This, according to the Bible is totally unacceptable with God, and will place its adherents on the wrong side of the fence, when the chips are finally tallied. Let's read:
1st John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
When we suffer from an inferiority complex, we are devalued in our own eyes and are thereby driven to make additions to our persons that are in direct opposition to what the word of God teaches. Although many people may be unaware of it, this deep seated problem which affects millions, is what drives us to try to appear to be who we are not, and in so doing we distort the physical image of God in ourselves, by the many unnatural products that are invented by the ungodly.
The Brazilian "Butt-lift" is an unnatural product designed for women who are not contented with the way they look, and therefore they are driven to defile the temple of God with artificial implants. Facial lifts, and cheek implants, together with a host of other cosmetic surgeries are all the productions of evil angels, made through human agencies to try to solve the problem of an inferiority complex, and because many are not contented in Christ, who gives us our true worth, we are made the sport of circumstances, and like the late Joan Rivers, who died whilst having one of these "Additions", we defile the temple of God.
The Lord voiced His displeasure over the indulgences of these things, and though they may be widely popular with the masses, and even though they may be touted as acceptable and even necessary by those who wield influence over the people, yet as Christians we are to avoid the pollutions that have come upon the land, and are to live as naturally as possible, lest we also incur God's displeasure. This form of idolatry which is a direct result of an inferiority complex, should never be indulged, and if it has been for any reason, we should confess our sins to God, and relinquish all products that interfere with, or distort the physical aspect of God's image in us. Let's read:
Isaiah 3:17 Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion".... 18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon, 19 The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers, 20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings, 21 The rings, and nose jewels, 24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty. 26 And"... "she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.
When we accept God's salvation through Christ, we are thereby made superior, and never inferior, because the inestimable value of His sacrifice is what gives us our worth. Thus we are never to surrender to the fashionable modes of thought that Hollywood stipulates, for Jesus makes us bold and brave as a lion, so that we may live and stand with God-given confidence, against all the trinkets and additions that satan deems necessary. As we look to Christ for everything, we will tend more and more to look away from self, and thus the pride and love of display that has become the hallmarks of modern society, will not affect us in negative ways, for if Jesus be pleased with us, then that's all that will matter.
We therefore end with a passage of scripture which teaches us what our main focus should be, as it pertains to adorning and character development, for it is the will of God that we carry about ourselves in a godly manner, free from the false standards and fashions that the world has set up to try to stem the tide of an inferiority complex. Let's read:
1st Peter 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. 5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves"....
May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
