2nd Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men"....
This passage of scripture teaches us that we are all held accountable for the decisions made, and the consequent actions taken throughout the tenure of our lives here on earth. No one is excluded from accountability, for the passage above uses the word "All" meaning that every nation and all individuals are included. One of the great misconceptions that has become so prevalent today, is the concept that only those who have declared themselves to be Christians fall under the jurisdiction of Christ, and thus only they will be held accountable for the deeds done in the body. But nothing could be farther from the truth, because neither pharaoh or Nebuchadnezzar were Christians, yet they we held to account for the sins they committed.
One of the main reasons why many people erroneously think that they are exempt from all accountability to God, is because of the teachings of evolution, for when the very concept of God as a supreme Being is deliberately left out of the equation, then the result is that we think that we answer only to ourselves, a philosophy which finds expression in songs such as "I did it my way" and "It's my life". We may do it our own way, and we may believe that it's our life, but at the end of the day, God will hold us responsible, whether we are Christians or not, for it makes absolutely no difference from person to person. Let's read:
Psalms 50:3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. 4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. 5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. 6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself.
It is because of a lack of understanding of this sacred truth, or otherwise deliberate rejection of it, that many now feel that we can do whatsoever we like with impunity. The current issue of the distortion of the marriage institution by many is an offshoot of the erroneous theory of non-accountability, hence the reason why gays and lesbians feel justified in exercising what they describe as their rights. But we must always remember that there is a huge difference between rights and freedoms, for God has given no one the "Right" to sin, but has instead given us the freedom to choose either good or evil.
Now, because He has granted us these freedoms does not mean that we will be let off the hook for the exercise thereof, because as the passage for today rightly states, good or evil deeds must be accounted for by the persons who committed them, and the One who has the final say in evaluating either good or bad, is God, and God alone. Let us therefore not be duped by the pleasing philosophies and smooth doctrines which seek to confirm us in our sins, but let us rather so live and do as those who will be judged by the law of God.
We therefore end with a passage of scripture which reiterates this sacred truth of human accountability, and it is the will of God that we choose life by having Christ as Lord and Savior, and by obeying His every word. Let's read:
Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
May The Lord add His blessing to the study and practice of His every word. God bless!
