Maintaining The Image Of God. 06/11/2015 (Morning thought)

Genesis 1:26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.  27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him".....

This passage of scripture teaches us that man was created in the image of God, and as such we should try our endeavor best to maintain that image, even thought it has become distorted on account of sin. We were originally made to resemble God both in character and physical features, but because of sin distortions have taken place, yet that original image has not been entirely obliterated. It is therefore our sacred duty to maintain what little is left, and if we are truly converted, God will continue to restore the physical and the spiritual aspects of His image in us, if we cooperate with Him by living in accordance with the laws and instructions He has given to govern our being.

The process of salvation involves the restoration of the entire man, and therefore any activity which forestalls this process is an affront to God's gracious overtures to save us from our sins. The practice of doctors, surgeons, and ordinary people, in the fostering of trans-sexual and similar operations is a very grave sin in the sight of God, for the process further degenerates the already fallen image of God in humanity. Thus instead of becoming more and more like Christ, we are drifting further and further away from God's original ideal for us, and the Bible contains very stern warnings for anyone who persists in the indulgence of any such practices or processes. To deface the image of God intentionally is a great sin and should never be done nor encouraged by anyone for any reason. Let's read:

1st Corinthians 3:16  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?  17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

The reasons that are often presented for the promulgation of LGBT indulgences and activities, which say that some people are born this way is a shallow excuse for sinful behavior, for even if a person is born with unnatural tendencies as far as sexual orientation goes, they do not have to stay that way, for God has provided abundant help in Christ, so that every evil propensity may be successfully resisted and overcome. A person who is born to parents who had drug or alcohol addictions, does not have to succumb to the genetic urges they they are predisposed to indulge. The children born to parents who are habitual liars, could themselves choose to be truthful, and children who are born with a powerful propensity to have multiple sexual partners, can through the grace of God, become happily married to one person of the opposite sex.

Salvation does not make a man more effeminate, neither does it cause a woman to become more manly, because the grace of God which has appeared to all of us, makes us more of who we ought to be. Thus drunkards can become sober, and profligates can become contented, and the biggest eater can become the "biggest loser" and gays and lesbians can become straight. There is no limit to what God can do in and through us, but under no circumstances should we ever erroneously conclude, that because we may have been born with unnatural sexual tendencies and urges, that we must be stuck in that mode, for Jesus Christ was manifested to put all distortions of His image in us, into permanent reverse gear. Let's read:

Titus 2:11  For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;  13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;  14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Let us therefore never sell ourselves short, neither let us be found wallowing in the mire of sinful propensities, for Jesus Christ was manifested to destroy all the works of the devil in us, whether they be inherited or cultivated tendencies to evil. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which teaches us that the sky is the limit, as far as overcoming is concerned, for with God nothing shall be impossible. Let's read:

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

May The Lord add His blessing to the study and practice of His every word. God bless!
