Joshua 3:14 And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people; 15 "As they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water"..... 16 That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap".... 17 And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
This passage of scripture is not merely a story about Joshua and the children of Israel crossing the Jordan in faith, it is also contains a spiritual law that must be implemented by Christians in gaining the victory in the various areas of our lives. In the above instance, God commanded the priests who bore the ark to take it up and go down into the midst of the Jordan river, which at this time was overflowing its banks. Then the people were instructed to cross over on dry ground, because of the miracle that God was going to perform in making the waters stand up as an heap, just as it occurred when the Hebrews had crossed the Red sea. However, this great, miraculous work of God would not take place until the priests had first dipped their feet in the waters, after which the "Dry foot" experience would be theirs.
This portion of sacred history contains very valuable lessons for us as Christians, for it is often the case that we never experience the "Dry foot" realities of a living faith in God, all because we are scared to get our feet "Wet". But in the experience of the Hebrews, it was only when their feet touched the water, that the miraculous power of God was engaged in their behalf, and just as it was back then, so it is today. Often when God gives us a command to follow a certain course of action, He awaits our compliance so that His power may be made manifest in our lives, but it's only as we step out in faith by getting our feet wet, that He then responds with mighty works of deliverance and manifold blessings.
Peter never knew that it was possible for him to walk on water until the command came from the lips of Christ. Then as he stepped out in faith and got his feet wet, he actually walked on the water through the power of God, something that would never had occurred if he was not willing to get his feet wet. The same spiritual law rings true for Christians living in the 21st century, for God has not changed one iota. In the command given in Malachi, for us to return a faithful tithe with our offerings, a mega promise is also included, but we must be willing to get our feet "Wet". The instruction given is for us to Bring" and then "Prove", meaning that we must step out in faith first, and then the "Dry foot' experience will be ours. Let's read:
Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts. 12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.
However, it is often the case that we are tempted with doubt and skepticism as we stand on the banks of spiritual Jordan, for satan specializes in presenting many logical reasons why we should not get our feet wet. The mortgage, rent, and the car note, together with all of the other bills, are presented to our minds in an exaggerated light by the enemy of souls, as reasons why we should not dip our feet in the Jordan. And so, while we stand on the banks twiddling our thumbs and questioning the logic of dipping, others are crossing over in faith and experiencing the mighty power of God displayed in their behalf, whilst many reasons, and excuses may be hampering us from obtaining the dry foot experience.
It is a law in the spiritual realm that the promises of God are experienced only after we have done His will, and never before, because if this were the case, then our relationship with God would be based on upfront guaranties and not on faith. But the Bible explicitly states that without faith it is impossible to please God, and therefore it is of critical importance that the spiritual law of "Wet foot, dry foot" be consistently adopted and implemented, so that the confirmations from God via His mighty acts of deliverance and blessing in our behalf, would not just be a mere figment of our imagination, but rather a living reality, by which we will be enabled to climb to higher heights through faith in God.
We therefore end with a passage of scripture which confirms this great spiritual law, and it is the will of God that we all be willing to get our feet wet, so that the dry foot experience may be ours on a daily basis. Let's read:
Hebrews 10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. 38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
