Consistency- A Godly Characteristic. 02/24/2015 (Morning thought)

Psalm 19:1  The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.  3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.  4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world"....

This passage of scripture teaches us the sacred truth that God is consistent in everything He does, and it is an integral part of His character, being manifested and exercised across the entire spectrum of His operations in heaven and earth. There are many atheists and secular minded people who do not believe in the existence of God, but little do they know that their very lives depend on His consistency. As a matter of fact, the U.S stock market is dependent on God's unchanging characteristic of consistency, for many of the commodities that are traded and bet upon are products which depend heavily on the sun and rain that are given in their due season. Soybeans, cattle, and even hogs are traded on the stock market, but these trades would collapse if God did not send rain to water the earth, so that seed could grow, and so that livestock can feed. It all has to do with His consistency. Let's read:

Psalm 104:10  He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills.  11 They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst. 13 He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.  14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;  27 These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.

Even the characteristic of love, on which the kingdom of God is founded, is exercised in consistency, for were it not for God's faithfulness in forgiving our sins every time we ask of Him, we could never have the confidence to go to Him for the pardon and healing we all so desperately need each day. But the consistent character of God must also be manifested in those who are followers of God, for the work of salvation has to do with the development of a Christlike character, through the power of God working effectually in us. Nothing that is worth doing or achieving will be accomplished without that one fundamental characteristic of consistency.

Take for instance, the battle of the bulge, where so many of us are struggling with the problem of weight-loss. In order to lose the pounds we will need to eat the right kinds of foods, and to exercise daily, whilst trusting in God. But we cannot shed that stubborn weight if we are not consistent in following a stipulated regimen in order to reach our goals. And if the habit of wavering and inconsistency is not resolutely overcome, our entire lives will be spent in stop and go mode, where we will start afresh at the beginning of the new year, only to relapse back into the old ways in a few months time. And with every such occurrence, our will power and zeal becomes weaker and weaker, until we sink down into depression, not realizing that a lack of consistency is the real cause.

As Christians we should always remember that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, and it matters not how weak and irresolute we may have been in the past, God can and will help us to gain the victory, if we be steadfast in our commitment to cooperate with Him in doing so. The angels will never lift us off the couch and literally take us to the gym, but if we trust in God and ask Him for strength to do the right thing, He will work within us to will and to do of His good pleasure. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which confirms this very point, and it is the will of God that we now buckle up our shoes, and start to run, with patience, the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, The Author and finisher of our faith. Let's read:

Philippians 2:5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:  12 Wherefore, my beloved" .... "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.  13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

May The Lord add His blessing to the study and practice of His every word. God bless!
