Remembering Our Creator In our Youth. 10/23/2015 (Evening thought)

Ecclesiastes 12:1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.

This passage of scripture cautions us to remember our Creator in our youthful days, so that we may avoid making those errors and blunders in life which could forever change the course of our earthly history, and severely inhibit our usefulness to God and to society as a whole.

It is worthy of note that sexual immorality is the sin which took down some of the most notable characters in the Bible, from Abraham, Jacob, and David, to Samson, Solomon, and Judah, all of which succumbed to the one and the same temptation. When we are young, and our sexual drive is now coming on stream, we do not usually think with our brains, but instead are led astray by our emotions and feelings, which in many cases are allowed to override good common sense. Hence the reason why the passage above specifies that we should remember our Creator in the days of our youth, not that He should ever be forgotten. Let's read:

Isaiah 40:30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

In our efforts to Remember God while young, there are certain facts we will have to deal with, one of them being that we will not always "Feel" to seek after God, and at times it may seem as if we have to go against our own grain, in order to keep our relationship with Christ intact. This very common occurrence should not then be viewed as us being estranged from the love of God, for there is no one living on the planet who ever sought after God naturally, without the aid and enabling power of The Holy Spirit. Even the most pious saint has struggled with the issue of seeking God consistently, and therefore we are not to think of ourselves as being particularly evil, if we do not possess that drive naturally. Let's read:

Psalm 53:2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. 3 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Thus, we will find it necessary to ask God to give us the desire to seek Him daily, for we do not have it within ourselves, and if we ask, we will never be disappointed, for God will do for us what we cannot do for ourselves.

Another uphill battle we will face in trying to remember God in our youthful days, is that of peer pressure, for we are now living in a godless age, where Christ has been supplanted in the heart by many false gods. And because of this, we may not find many in the secular world who would be willing to join us in the hour of prayer, or in the study of the scriptures. Therefore it is imperative that we understand that we are all saved in single file, through a personal, ongoing  relationship with The Lord Jesus, and thus, we cannot wait for the majority to approve of our efforts to seek after God.

Let us therefore make our move now, while we still have opportunity to make good on the gracious overtures of Christ to save us, and if we invite Him into our hearts each day, the desire to seek Him more will continue to grow, until we are brought to the point where we cannot do without Him. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which encourages us to do just that, and God will respond by keeping us from evil. Let's read:

Proverbs 8:17 "Those that seek me early shall find me. 18 Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. 32 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. 33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. 34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. 35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.

May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
