Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
This passage of scripture teaches us that sin in all of its various forms and different levels, must not have a place in our hearts. The passage goes on to emphasize the sacred truth of total and deliberate abstinence, by not obeying the lusts and evil desires of our carnal nature, lest we again be enslaved by sin, after being freed by the blood of Christ. This admonition could not come at a more pertinent time, since in the minds of millions of people, including many church going Christians, it is now acceptable to sin in tiny amounts, or to be politically correct, to sin in "Moderation". It is imperative that we be acquainted with the devices of satan, as his deadly and nefarious work is now being intensified in the earth, and as many secular and religious authorities are now subscribing to his ideologies and philosophies. Let's read:
2nd Corinthians 2:4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears" ..... 11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
The concept of doing wrong in moderation has now gained sufficient traction as to become a way of life for many of us, and whatsoever the word of God pronounces as sin, is now being interpreted to mean that we can indulge in those activities, once we do it "Moderately". The Bible clearly states that alcoholic beverages should not be ingested, but it is now socially acceptable to drink in "Moderation". The word of God says that lying lips are an abomination, but lying has now become a part of everyday life, whenever situations seem to warrant us speaking falsehoods. Adultery in all of its various forms and hues is declared to be a sin in the scriptures, but we now distribute condoms to teenagers so that they can have premarital sex in "Moderation". And the list goes on and on and on, but the same Bible asks of us a question that must one day be answered by each individual, a question upon whose answer our eternal destiny will be decided. Let's read:
1st Corinthians 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
The scriptures declare that the wages of sin is death, and this pertains to all sin, at all levels, and in any circumstances, for it makes no difference whatsoever. If someone deliberately and knowingly embraced a live, high tension electrical wire, we know beyond the shadow of doubt that the person will be immediately electrocuted. But if another person were to ignorantly touch the same live wire with a teeny weeny touch, they too will also be executed, even though they may have touched it in "Moderation". Hence the reason why the scriptures issue a caution to all, not to be deceived into subscribing to satan's fatal sophistry, that a little sin is okay, for our world was originally plunged into spiritual darkness and alienation from God, through a so- called teeny weeny sin of eating a forbidden fruit.
The work of salvation is not to sustain us in a wrong course of sin at tolerable or moderate levels, but rather to cut sin out completely by its roots. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which confirms this point, and it is the will of God that sin in all its various forms be repented of and forsaken, for it is for this cause that Christ came into the world, not to negotiate with sin, but rather to utterly destroy the works of the devil. Let's read:
1st John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
