Isaiah 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. 23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.
This passage of scripture shows us beyond the shadow of a doubt that the Sabbath of the fourth commandment will be kept in the earth made new, for it was given as an everlasting ordinance for the benefit of mankind. As it is today, those of us who have entered into a covenant relationship with Christ have come to understand both the wisdom and value of the seventh day Sabbath, where we can rest from the wearisome toils and cares of the week. However, the physical aspect of the Sabbath rest was never intended by God to be the focal point of the day, for it was primarily ordained so that we could spend quality time with our Creator, and in so doing, strengthen the bonds of love which bind all like-minded believers together.
In the new earth which God will create, the Sabbath will be much more different than what we now know it to be, for it will be a period of sweet communion with God, a time in which the treasures of His knowledge and wisdom in creation will be vividly displayed, and as we view his handiwork in creating suns, stars, and systems, our love and appreciation of Christ will only deepen as the years roll by. This aspect of the new earth experience is brought prominently to view in various passages of scripture. Let's read:
Revelation 21:10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; 18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. 19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. 22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
Revelation 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
In order for us to have a better understanding of the grandeur of God's handiwork that will call forth adoration and praise spontaneously from the saints, we only have to observe the dimensions of the City, the New Jerusalem. Let's read:
Revelation 21:16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
John says that the city is as long and broad as it is high, and then he gives the exact measurements, twelve thousand furlongs, which represents a mind-boggling dizzy height, for one furlong is equal to 660 feet, therefore a height of twelve thousand furlongs gives us a city that is 1500 miles high. In stark contrast, the new world trade center stands at a paltry 0.33 miles, making the so called wisdom of man seem like foolishness in contrast with the wisdom of God. That's why the following scripture was written to give us a glimpse of what God has in store for those who love Him. Let's read:
1st Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
The issue for us to consider now is whether of not we are preparing to keep the Sabbath in the earth made new, for if we intend to do so, we will need to begin practicing here and now, for practice makes perfect. In our day there are many Christians who have bought into the erroneous theory that the Sabbath has been changed from Saturday to Sunday, and because of this, many sincere persons are not being prepared for fellowship with God in the new earth. That's why God is now calling all would be citizens of heaven, to put our house in order as it pertains to obedience to all of His commandments, including the Sabbath, so that the relationship with Christ may be complete. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which shows us the only way that we can enter through the gates of the city, and it is the will of God that the necessary reforms and changes that are long overdue, take place without delay. Let's read:
Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. 16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. 17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
May God add His blessing to the study and doing of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
