Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
This passage of scripture teaches us that all who put their trust in Christ and His salvation, will be victorious in the battles of life, for The Spirit presents our cases to God The Father in a manner that will bring results when we need them most. It is of the utmost importance that we think victoriously, and not hang our heads in self pity, being bowed down with the seeming impenetrable darkness which sometimes surrounds us. Sometimes in our Christian experience we may be beset by foes without and within, yet we must continue to believe that we are winners in Christ, for this positive attitude of faith and trust is essential to gaining the victory over cultivated and inherited tendencies to evil. Furthermore, The Lord has promised a way of escape to every temptation which may come our way, if we keep our focus on Him. Let's read:
1st Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
The apostle Peter was well-known for impulsive speech and actions, which often got him into trouble, for before his conversion, he was often found to be speaking without thinking first. When Christ appeared to the disciples, walking on the water in the dead of night, it was Peter who said "Lord if it be thou, bid me come unto you", and when Jesus gave him the go-ahead, he stepped out in faith and actually walked on water. Again, we can see his impulsiveness when Jesus was transfigured before them, because on this occasion, Peter did not know what to say, yet he said it. Let's read:
Matthew 17:3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. 4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
Note well that he answered without anyone asking him a question, yet Christ did not rebuke him for this trait of character, for what we as humans often view as being a person's weakness, is often turned into a great strength, when our talents and abilities are sanctified by God's grace. After The Holy Ghost was poured out on the day of Pentecost, it was the very same Peter who took the lead in preaching the Gospel of Christ to those who were gathered for the festive occasion, thus revealing to us the sacred truth that through the power of Christ, we can be victorious over cultivated or inherited tendencies in our personal lives. Let's read:
Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 14 But Peter" ..... "lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words" ..... "this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
In our own experience we may be battling with some long-standing problem or habit which seems difficult to overcome, and try as we might, we always seem to fall on that very same point over and over again, even though we may have tried in vain on many occasions to get rid of the nagging issue. Others like Peter, may be suffering from the tendency to speak hastily, without evaluating the effect that our words may have on others, and so we may have inadvertently wounded someone's spirit in a flurry of ill-advised words. Whatever the problem might be, God has promised victory to all who put their trust in Him, and though we may have fallen on the same point on many previous occasions, yet we must continue to believe that one day the complete victory will be ours, for this is what is meant when the scriptures teach us to walk by faith.
We therefore end with a passage of scripture which confirms the victory to everyone who believes in Christ, for He died that we might live victoriously, both now and for eternity. Let's read:
1st John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.
May God grant us the victory in our battles with sin and self , for we walk by faith and not by sight. "Good night" and God bless!
