Genesis 26:2 And the Lord appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt".... 3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee" ....... 4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; 5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.
This passage reveals to us the sacred truth that God's law has always been in existence, even before the beginning of time, for His kingdom is built upon eternal principles which transcend millenniums and years. The law of God was passed down by word of mouth, from generation to successive generation, beginning with Adam and Eve, and continuing through the lives of the faithful, until it was finally written out by the finger of God on Mount Sinai. That's why The Lord, in writing out the fourth commandment, begins with the word "Remember", for He couldn't ask us to remember something that we had no prior knowledge of.
It's worthy of note that God's law was just as valid when it was spoken by word of mouth, as when it was written down in stone, for the mode of transmission in no way affects the inviolability of its content, and therefore we are just as obligated today as Abraham was, to keep every jot and tittle of the law, both in spirit and in letter. When I was growing up in our parent's home, my dad and my mom both gave us rules to live by, laws which governed the running of their home, but none of these were ever written down anywhere, yet they were still valid, just as if they had been written in a book. As a matter of fact, the majority of citizens here in America file their taxes faithfully every year, even though the overwhelming majority of us have never read 'Thou shalt file thy taxes" any where.
In the case of God's law of ten commandments, we have certification, both by word of mouth and by letter, and therefore we are without excuse if we fail to follow that which has been given to us for our best good. At the end of earth's history, the law of God will again be seen and heard, but then it will be too late to make our decision in favor of it, hence the reason why The Lord is appealing to us now, to choose life by submitting ourselves to Christ, so that the laws of God can be indelibly written in our hearts and minds, thereby bringing us back into harmony with God's original plan for our existence.
We therefore end with a promise to all who are willing to have this sacred work be accomplished in their lives, for the time of our sojourn on this earth is almost over, and God has stated that the work of salvation will one day come to a close. That's why the invitation is being urgently extended to earth's teeming multitudes, so that all who desire to be saved when Christ comes, can be found in readiness. Let's read:
Hebrews 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: 11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
May God's law find a permanent home in our hearts where it belongs. God bless!
