Go And Sin No More. 08/31/2014 (Evening thought)

John 8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

This passage of scripture addresses one of the main misconceptions of God's grace and how it is administered in behalf of fallen humanity, for it shows clearly that God is not in the business of condemnation, but rather in the work of restoration, to everyone who believes. The woman in the passage was taken in the act of adultery, a very common sin that occurs all to often, and she was then brought to Christ to see what He would do. The act of bringing her for a public review by Christ was not done with the intention of restoration, by those who had accused her, but it was done so as to put Christ in conflict with what He had given Moses to write, earlier on in the first five books of the old Testament. Let's read:

John 8:4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him.

In their blindness and in their haste to entrap Jesus, they overlooked what the very same Moses had written concerning the forgiveness of all manner of sin, for although the wages of sin is death, yet God had made provision for the sinner to find grace and pardon, even in the old Testament era, because the entire sanctuary system with all of its sacrifices and services was geared towards the restoration of fallen humanity, not our destruction, as many back then had erroneously thought. Let's read:

Leviticus 5:17 And if a soul sin, and commit any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the Lord; though he wist it not, yet is he guilty ..... 18 And he shall bring a ram without blemish out of the flock, with thy estimation, for a trespass offering, unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his ignorance wherein he erred and wist it not, and it shall be forgiven him.

Even though the above passage deals with the sin of ignorance, yet the sin that was committed knowingly was also forgiven by God, once confession was made and the appropriate sacrifice was offered, for the Bible teaches us that all manner of sin will be forgiven by God if we confess and forsake it. Let's read:

Leviticus 6:2 If a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the Lord, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in fellowship, or in a thing taken away by violence, or hath deceived his neighbour; 3 Or have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein, ....  he shall bring his trespass offering unto the Lord, a ram without blemish out of the flock, ...... unto the priest: 7 And the priest shall make an atonement for him before the Lord: and it shall be forgiven him for any thing of all that he hath done in trespassing therein.

The whole purpose of the plan of salvation is to restore us to the favor and knowledge of God so that we would not continue to sin and harm our own selves in the process, but a deadly doctrine of devils has emerged in Christendom, in which the subscribers are taught that God's grace and mercy continues to cover the sinner while knowingly committing sin over and over again. And because of this dangerous heresy, many people accept Christ only nominally, and attend church services while making plans to sin thereafter. This attitude and tendency must be avoided like the plague, for it sets in motion a chain of circumstances, which inevitably lead to the unpardonable sin, after the pleading voice of God goes completely dead in a person's conscience. This scenario we are warned of in the Bible not do indulge, for it can leave us destitute of God's grace and mercy permanently. Let's read:

Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

It's therefore very important for us to harbor a good balanced understanding of God's gracious overtures to save us, for Jesus Christ was manifested to save us from our sins, not in our sins, and thus it behooves us to make the most of the new lease on life that salvation affords, for our redemption was purchased at the highest price, and should therefore be valued as the most precious asset ever given to mortal man. We therefore end with a familiar passage of scripture which encourages us to confess and forsake all known sin, for God is willing and able to restore the most abandoned sinner who comes to Him seeking pardon. Let's read:

1st John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

May the God of peace sanctify our hearts to the obeying of the truth, for this is the purpose of the whole plan of salvation. "Good night" and God bless!
