The Truth In Modern Shoes. 08/18/2014 (Morning thought)

Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord: 12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

This passage of scripture tells us that the time will come when it will be very difficult to find truth in the modern world, for a spiritual famine has already taken hold on modern Christendom, to the point where many people do not even know or recognize truth anymore. Doctrines such as relativism, and "no absolute truth" have destroyed a relish for the plain utterances of God's word, and because of these and other similar teachings, millions have come to accept a very diluted form of truth, which neither saves the sinner, nor restores us to a right relationship with God.

One of the popular methods of teaching God's word in our day is to use one text alone to build a sermon. This method often opens wide the door for human theories, suppositions, and interjections to be introduced alongside the truth, and the end result is that people often come away either confused or deceived. Another reason why the truth seems to be mired in vagaries is because of the many private interpretations that abound, and many televangelists are now in the habit of putting their own spin on what they think the scripture should mean, instead of letting the word of God be its own interpreter. This latter method is one of the reasons why we have had so many false predictions pertaining to the end of the world, which have fanned the curiosity and fears of the multitudes, only to end in confusion and dismay.

When the word of God is studied and presented, humanistic reasonings and philosophies should be left out, and the scripture should be made to explain itself, by using the line upon line method that is stipulated in the Bible. But most importantly, it is absolutely necessary that we pray first, asking God to guide us, so that we do not wrest the scriptures from their true meaning, while being willing to confirm or surrender our preconceived ideas, as the Word and The Holy Spirit lead the way. When we approach the study of the scriptures as a humble learner, willing to be taught by God, and willing to do His will, the truth in modern shoes will be seen to be resplendent with glory, and rich nuggets of truth will be found by the sincere seeker.

We therefore end with a passage of scripture that confirms the promise of truth, even in these days of famine, to all who are honest-hearted and willing to follow where God leads the way. Let's read:

Hebrews 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: 11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

May God bless the reading and study of His word, for they are indeed, a savor of life unto life. God bless!
