Romans 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. 23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
This passage of scripture tells us that the many irreconcilable problems of earth, portend the soon coming of Jesus to put an end to sin, and to usher in the eternal reign of righteousness. When a woman goes into labor, her pains and contractions begin slight at first, and the cramps she experiences are far and few between. But as the time for her delivery draws near, her labor pains greatly intensify, and her contractions come at a more hurried and intense pace, until she can retain her baby no longer, and she delivers her child.
The same is true of the many woes that are coming upon the earth in ever-increasing, rapid succession and intensity, for it's obvious even to the casual observer, that with every new day, some new turmoil, some new bloodshed, some new disturbance is occurring, and it is becoming more apparent, that man does not have the answer to these various tumults. Just a couple of months ago we were dealing with the disappearance of the Malaysian jet liner with over two hundred people on board, but since that time there have arisen in different parts of the world, mass executions and brutal be-headings by Isis, several hundred girls have been kidnapped and murdered by Boko Haram, a jet filled with people has been shot out of the sky, and war has broken out between Israel and Hamas, and the deadly Ebola epidemic is taking lives at an alarming rate.
These things are happening with such speed and intensity, that the issue of the Malaysian jet is not even mentioned anymore. What we are witnessing is actually a fulfillment of the many prophecies in the Bible which point to the climax of earth's history, in a final conflict between the forces of good and the forces of evil. Let's read:
Luke 21:7 "And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass? 8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived ....... 9 But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass. ....... 10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom ....... 11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights ......... 25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring. ...... 26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth"....
The question then is what should be our attitude towards the unstable state of affairs in which we now live? Should we be overwhelmed, and depressed by what is taking place both at home and abroad? or should our perspective be one of earnest expectation and hope for the kingdom of God to be established, as predicted in the scriptures? The Bible gives us the answer. Let's read:
Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
Many are making the mistake of knocking our political leaders for the rapid increase of disturbances around the world, and here at home, as if they have the answers or the remedies for earth's problems. The fact is that with all of our good intentions, the cure for earth's woes do not lie within ourselves, and therefore we must look to the one and only true God for a permanent solution to our perplexities. God's method of solving these and other problems of the human heart is not by using external solutions, which only deal with the symptoms; His method is to create in us a new heart and a right spirit, so that the necessary changes can begin and continue internally.
Christ is the one and only answer to our perplexities, and if we invite Him into our hearts, He will do what only He can do, by changing us from the inside out, and replacing our old, fallen human nature, with His own glorious character and righteousness.
We therefore end with a passage of scripture which points us to Christ as the only remedy to earth's woes. Let's read:
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
May this passage and promise bring comfort and cheer to our benighted souls, for God is faithful who has promised. "Good night" and God bless!
