The Assembling Of Ourselves. 07/15/2014 (Evening thought)

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

This passage of scripture tells us of the necessity for all true Christians to press together, in purpose and in fellowship, especially as the day of God gets closer and closer. There is a certain strength to be obtained in numbers, and although God can use one as well as a million people to do His bidding, yet His ideal for His people is that we pray, consult, discuss, unite, and plan in unison for the up-building of His kingdom and also for the greater, common good.

The assembling of ourselves together is not restricted only to worship and social activities, but it also includes coming together to plan for the advancement of God's kingdom in our immediate neighborhoods and throughout all the world. When this timely counsel is carried out as it ought to be, there is seen a well defined and cohesive effort in the spreading of the gospel, and thus through proper organization and harmony of purpose, many souls can be won to Christ through the effectual working of the Holy Ghost. This assembling of of the disciples together after Christ had ascended, is what set the stage for the long anticipated outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. Let's read:

Acts 1:13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Acts  2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

In our day, The Holy Spirit is again promised in the form of the latter rain, that is to lighten the earth with the glory and knowledge of God, so that every member of the human family can have ample opportunity to come to a knowledge of the true God. But this will not take place whilst there is constant bickering and infighting amongst us as Christians, for wherever the spirit of animosity, isolation and ostracization is cultivated, the work of the Holy Spirit is severely inhibited, for God is not the author of confusion, but of peace. The tendency to form off-shoot groups that stand separate and aloof from the main body of true believers is not in the order of God, and should not be adopted, according to our main scripture.

Some may claim that the reasons for isolating themselves is because they see hypocrisy in the way the administrative arm of the gospel is being run. Others may neglect the assembling of ourselves together because of differences of personal opinion, or other cultural and social issues. The fact of the matter is that hypocrites are a fact of life as it pertains to any religion, and they will be found wherever we may go, for in many of the Bible characters who went on to become thoroughly converted, there was previously some level of hypocrisy to be seen in their characters.

This fact can be observed in the experiences of Abraham, David, Peter, Solomon, Aaron, and a host of other God fearing men who are referred to as the "Saints" of the Lord. Hence the reason why The Lord cautions us not to judge anyone, nor to abstain from mutual fellowship for various personal reasons, for those who may be hypocrites today, might be the most faithful and devoted followers of Christ tomorrow.

We therefore end with a passage of scripture which encourages us to dwell together in harmony, even though we have differences and varying circumstances to deal with, for in the multitude of godly counselors, there is safety. Let's read:

Psalms 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! 2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; 3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

May each of us encourage and cultivate the spirit of true brotherhood, by often assembling ourselves together, especially as we see the day of God approaching. "Good night" and God bless!
