The Potency Of The Spirit. 06/28/2014 (Evening thought)

1st Samuel 19:19 And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah. 20 And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.

This passage of scripture demonstrates for us in real time, and in graphic ways, the potency of the Holy Ghost, whom Christ has sent to dwell in our hearts by faith. One of the singular abilitiess of God is omnipotence, which means that there is nothing to great, to complex, or to dangerous for Him to address and resolve. When we observe this entire episode with Saul prophesying against his own will, we are reminded that our freedom of choice, which we so often boast of, is really a gift given to us by a loving God, so that we can use it to serve Him from a free and willing heart.

King Saul had been in hot pursuit of David for a while, and time and time again, the Lord had shown through His providential protection of David, that it is futile to fight against God, for He delivered him from the hands of the spoiler in many miraculous ways which Saul himself could not deny. However, in this bold and heaven-daring attempt on David's life, he pushed the envelope a bit too far, and the Holy Spirit then engaged His potent power to bring Saul's murderous designs to nought. Let's read:

1st Samuel 19:21 And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also. 22 Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that is in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah. 23 And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah. 24 And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?

When God has given us the clearest evidence that we are in the wrong, by bringing to the forefront of our consciences those issues that need to be addressed, it is His will that we respond in the affirmative, by confessing our sins and surrendering ourselves to be molded by His Spirit, rather than deliberately forging ahead with sinful thoughts and actions that are contrary to His revealed will. God does not condemn anyone for the disease of sin with which we are all born, what He is concerned about is what we do with the remedy that has been bountifully provided in Christ.

If Saul had there confessed his sin in seeking to slay The Lord's anointed, then God would have forgiven him just like any other human being, and the same Holy Spirit who presently acted as a deterrent to his evil deeds, would now exercise His omnipotence to cleanse and heal from all sin. The Bible teaches us that greater is He which is in us, than he that is in the world, and therefore we are not to be intimated or shackled by foes within and without.

We therefore end with a passage of scripture which reminds us that in all of the battles of life we face, whether spiritual or temporal in nature, the potent power of the Holy Spirit is always available to us to make us conquerors, if we believe and ask in faith. Let's read:

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

May we experience victory in our lives through the potency of the Spirit, for it's not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit saith The Lord. "Good night" and God bless!
