Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
This passage of scripture outlines for us the purpose why God's saving grace through Christ was manifested on behalf of the human family. It is the will of God that the end result of His untiring efforts to rescue us from the thralldom of sin, would be that we are renewed in heart and mind. God takes us as we are, but He does not leave us as we are, but instead goes about to activate the necessary changes that restoring His image in us requires. This purpose is clearly stated in the following passage of scripture. Let's read:
2nd Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
One of the great errors of our day is the doctrine that teaches its adherents that God's grace cancels our obedience to Him, and therefore we are at liberty to do whatsoever we please, including breaking all of His commandments. This teaching which has been concocted in the synagogue of satan, opens the door for the grossest iniquity to be practiced under the guise of Christianity, while people claim to love God with all the heart and soul. And as a result it's becoming more and more difficult to tell who is a Christian and who is not.
Those peculiar characteristics that are supposed to distinguish believers from unbelievers has become very blurry, and if things continue as they are currently going, we may see the day anyone and everyone will be called a Christian. This sad state of affairs was actually prophesied in the Bible many years ago, and as it stands currently, the prophecy is almost completely fulfilled. Let's read:
Isaiah 4:1 And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.
A woman in prophecy represents a church, and thus the condition mentioned here describes very vividly the modern Christian church where almost anything goes. Some Christians today are getting tattoos, some are involved in body piercings, many of them eat all of the foods God has forbidden, some cheat on their spouses, and many prominent members of the clergy have been caught in lewd sexual acts that were once thought to be the practices of only the vilest of sinners.
And so Paul asks the question again, "Shall we continue in sin any longer"? The answer comes to us as a resounding no, for the Bible tells us that Jesus Christ was manifested to save His people from their sins, not in their sins. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which calls us to a spiritual renewal each day, for it is the will of god that we continue to grow in grace and in a knowledge and practice of the truth. Let's read:
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
May God add His blessing to the reading and doing of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
