Miracles, The Last Resort. 04/04/2014 (Morning thought)

Luke 8:43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, 44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.  46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.  48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.

This passage of scripture outlines for us the way in which we are to cooperate with God in everything, including dealing with irresolvable health issues. We are instructed in the Bible to pray without ceasing, which means that in every experience of life, including desperate situations, we should press our petitions to the throne of grace to obtain mercy.

However, we are also instructed by precept and example to exhaust all available or known resources before we expect God's supernatural power to be engaged. For instance, if we contracted the flu virus and are suffering with headaches and pains and runny noses, we should pray, but at the same time we should be taking our God-ordained natural remedies such as garlic, lemon juice, ginger and natural zinc. This is actually how an intelligent faith in God works. The tendency to sit back doing nothing, while waiting for Benny Hinn to show up does not represent an understanding faith in God.

In our passage for today we see that the woman with the issue of blood had spent all of her money and energy trying to find a cure for her ailment. She went from doctor to doctor, and then when nothing else worked, she looked for God's miraculous power to do what she could not accomplish on her own. Jesus recognized her intelligent faith in Him and He rewarded her ardent desire for healing.

What is worthy of note is that, in that throng were many who had diseases and ailments and who came in direct contact with Christ, but who were not healed as the woman was because they probably touched Jesus in a casual way. God recognizes only the prayer or the touch of faith, because it is only through this avenue that His miraculous power is displayed in response to our requests.

There are many who in our day seek out the many professed faith-healers of our time, without taking proactive steps to remedy their situation by cooperating with God in the process of healing and restoration. Very many have expected miraculous healing for lung cancer, while still cherishing the habit of smoking, and others have prayed for deliverance whilst deliberately living contrary to what they know is right. The Bible explains how true faith is exercised when all else has failed. Let's read:

James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:  15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

It's necessary for us to cooperate fully with God in the instructions He has written, and the promise is given that if we do, God will grant us the desire of our hearts according to His will. We therefore end with a promise to all, who by cooperating with God, expect His miraculous power to be engaged in their behalf. Let's read:

Psalms 84:11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.  12 O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

We  hope and pray that this promise will find fulfillment in our everyday lives. God bless!
