The impartial God. 02/03/14 (Evening thought)

Matthew 5:45 "For he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."

This passage of scripture teaches us that God is impartial in His dealings with the human family. He provides food for those who acknowledge Him, and individuals who deny His existence are also included in His Providences. Even though many people may not be aware of it, God is very much involved in the day to day operations on the earth. The Psalmist David wrote extensively on this fact. Let's read:  Psalms 104:10 He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills. 11 They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst. 12 By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches. 13 He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works. 14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth.

Not only is God proactively involved in the sustenance of man, but He is the one who keeps volatile situations on the earth from spinning out of control. He prevents meteorites from obliterating our planet and even those who do not know Him are included in His protective care. The fact that God is not biased in the administration of His love is vividly displayed in the way He treated Cain, the world's first murderer. After making known to him the natural results of his awful crime, Cain complained that his punishment was greater than he could bear, and that he would be a target for any one seeking his life. What followed is a striking example of God's unbiased love, shining radiantly through His actions. Let's read:

Genesis 4:13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear. 14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. 15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. 16 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

Cain then permanently turned his back on God and went out from His presence. He continued to live for hundreds of years, eating from God's bounty, enjoying God's protection, partaking of God's sunshine and rain, and breathing God's fresh air. Yet he never ever attempted to mend the broken relationship with His maker. The Lord however, did not withdraw his promise to keep Cain safe, and for his entire life, God watched over Cain, night and day. This is what we call amazing love!

But even greater than His temporal bounties are His mercies exhibited to the just and the unjust. The Bible records the sacred fact, that God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for the redemption of fallen man. This was done, not when we were His friends, but when we were alienated from Him. It was done not only for the righteous, but for every person of every nation, regardless of caste, ethnicity, or religion. This is what is clearly delineated in the following texts:  John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Again we read:  Romans 5:7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

It's amazing then, that the gift of eternal life, being bought at such a price, and within the reach of all, is not appreciated nor valued by millions of people, as it ought to be. When I was a child, I remember hearing the song "Santa Claus is coming to town". Strange enough though, I never received any gift from him, the reason being that I never went to receive a gift. Could it be that, in the larger scheme of things, many people are unknowingly passing up a golden opportunity to know Jesus Christ and be saved eternally? The answer to this question lies within the heart of each person, and as we ponder it, God wants us to remember that He is impartial in His administration of love towards the human family. Anyone, at anytime, in any place, and in any condition can always call upon the name of Jesus, and the promise is made to those who do:  Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

We sincerely hope and trust that this promise would be fulfilled in every heart.

"Good night" and God bless!
