Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
This brief passage of scripture constitutes a statement of fact as it pertains to the origin of the earth. It tells us that there is an intelligent, supreme God, who brought the world into existence by His Almighty power. As we observe and ponder the implications of this singular statement, we see extensive planning, omnipotence and uncanny wisdom, knowledge, and understanding being brought to bear in the creation of the earth. One of the fundamental principles for us to consider in this verse is that whatever exists, whether it be stars, planets, trees or man, must of necessity been put there by Someone. For us to assume that material things appeared randomly out of no where without any wise, deliberate planning, not only denigrates our intelligence, but it also puts us at risk for "something else" to appear out of nowhere and possibly cause serious harm to the human family. A good friend of mine has a Chevrolet corvette with a very powerful engine sitting in his front yard. If I were to ask him how it got there, and he replied that it appeared out of no where without anyone or any intelligent planning, I would be very troubled, for it would become obvious that my friend's intelligence had been severely compromised. In the creative works of God and in the intricate workings of the systems He has put in place, we behold on an unprecedented scale, science, biology, physics, astronomy, geography, mathematics, and sheer omnipotence, appealing to our intelligence that there must be a God somewhere. That's why the prophet Isaiah bids us consider: Isaiah 40:26 "Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
"In our world today, the origin of the earth and man is construed to be a theory of accidental occurrences, that took place randomly without any intelligent planning over millions of years. Thousands of books and millions upon millions of words have been written, and continue to be published to try to explain the theory of evolution, while the word of God brings sanity to the issue with a simple statement of fact containing only ten words: "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth". It seems logical and much easier to believe the biblical record! We hope that as we continue to study the scriptures together, that the truths of God's word will shine forth radiantly into our hearts, and that we may come to a better understanding of the God of the universe whom we serve. God bless!
